Mad Scientist Madness!!

A little project I took on. I felt compelled to draw someone I knew as a mad scientist, and my puppy would be the assistant. Enjoy.

This image is bigger than my scanner, so for now I'll just post it this way. This is an illustration I did for the beginning of a poem written by the same fine gentleman who wrote the comics I posted earlier.

I still remember that I'm suppose to be drawing

So I put that last post up to sort of energize myself. I actually drew those pages over the summer, but had never posted them since they're part of what should be a much longer comic. But I figured a little teaser wouldn't be bad since I don't have anything else to put up this week. I've actually been drawing, but anatomical illustrations of the female reproductive system for a presentation probably won't make it up here.

The New Plan

So no one reads this, which is fine; it's mostly for my own catharsis anyway. But for those who may stumble upon this, there's going to be a change in format.

I haven't done very much with this blog since I started it, which I regret. It was initially supposed to be a way of helping me to purge myself of an unfortunate 5-year relationship during which I let a lot of my favorite things go, drawing being one of them. But then after an initial dumping of sketches it sort of trailed off. Then I started drawing again...really, after years of nothing, and largely due to the collaboration with a new man in my life. I loved it, and it led to the creation of a highly-acclaimed :) mini comic and the beginning of a couple more, but after ten and a half remarkably-comfortable months followed by one and a half months of inconvenient moodiness that collaboration has ended on more than just the creative level. Which brings me to now...

So for those who are interested, I am a third-year medical student a mere two and a half months into her experiences at the hospital. This, as you may imagine, takes up a great deal of my time. Something I have paid for in my personal life on more than one occasion. However, that is just plain not good enough, and I'm not interested in waking up in five years finally able to say "now I can have a life". So basically, as a small testament to that, I plan on actually using this here blog. I'm not exactly sure what's going to come out of it (as I expect I'm the only one paying attention, I'm not too worried about it), but I'm going to try to use this space to chronicle artistically what this time in my life is; maybe it'll help me figure it out. And for any passers by, maybe you'll get a glimpse of something pretty, something interesting or something that just makes you smile. That would be nice.

I'm going to try to post at least one sketch a week to start. I'm stating that because if it's in print, perhaps I'll stick to it. Let's see how this goes.

Dr. Sketchy's at San Diego Comic-Con

First Dr. Sketchy's

My friend Val took me to this thing called Dr. Sketchy's in Brooklyn a couple of weeks ago. Basically, it's a nontraditional life-drawing class; it's kind of cabaret. Anyway, the first one I went to was absinthe themed, which translated into the model being dressed as the green fairy. Here are my sketches from that event. Oh, and the one with the lettering won me a free shot of absinthe, and the lettering is courtesy of Val.

Early summer sketches

I started trying to sketch again early this summer, but I didn't
get more than a handful in. Mostly I went to some parks and
drew people I thought were interesting. Here they are.
